Huawei WisePlay DRM support added across our streaming solutions

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve included WisePlay in our roster of DRM security solutions as an added value offering for both current and future customers! You can now easily deliver video content to a wider range of platforms with audiences securely streaming DRM-protected media across Huawei devices.

WisePlay was developed by Huawei for their branded phones, tablets, and smart TVs to address limitations they face with US-based technology. Based on the ChinaDRM standard, it supports a range of features to meet strict studio requirements and modern streaming needs.

Runs at the software or hardware security level including a TEE on supported devices for high quality UHD and HDR content delivery.

Enables secure online and offline VOD playback as well as live streaming.

Compatible with MPEG-DASH (fMP4), HLS (fMP4/TS), and CMAF flavors, plus Common Encryption (CENC) with AES-CTR and AES-CBC encryption modes.

As of this writing, Huawei device support for WisePlay includes:

Phones and tablets with the Kirin 990 chipset running EMUI 10.1+ or HarmonyOS 1.0+
Phones and tablets running EMUI 11.0+ or HarmonyOS 1.0+
Smart TVs running HarmonyOS 2.0.0.172+

As Huawei’s EMUI and HarmonyOS operating systems are Android based, our PRESTOplay for Android SDK is the perfect solution to quickly develop and deploy amazing playback apps with experiences users will love. PRESTOplay now ships with built-in WisePlay support making secure streaming apps simple to publish on Huawei’s AppGallery.

Was your content created for use with Widevine or PlayReady? There’s no need to touch your current library as WisePlay is CENC compatible. Our player can dynamically generate a WisePlay PSSH box on the client side based on existing content data, so encrypted media working with Widevine or PlayReady can be automatically used on-the-fly.
