castLabs Equips Avion Media with Video Playback and DRM Technology

Berlin, September 21, 2016 – castLabs, a digital video technology and services company, today announced it has collaborated with Avion Media, an over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform provider. castLabs supplies its video player and digital rights management (DRM) licensing technology to enable protected content streaming for Avion Media and its European customers.

Based in Croatia, Avion Media provides hosted, subscription-based end-to-end OTT solutions. Its AVIION TV Suite enables companies to manage and monetize digital video assets across internet-enabled devices including smartphones, tablets, TVs, set-top-boxes, game consoles, PCs, and Macs. Digital video providers of any size have the opportunity to use a scalable, full-service delivery platform that can be accessed from the cloud or as a standalone solution. A selection of features include hosted content streaming, DRM support, advertising, and analytics.

To facilitate the playback of protected live and on-demand content, castLabs has provided its DASH Everywhere cross-browser player, Video Player SDKs for Android/iOS, and cloud-based DRM licensing service, DRMtoday. These technologies enable Avion Media to offer DRM-secured MPEG-DASH video playback to its wide range of customers.

DRMtoday is designed to reduce the complex nature of delivering DRM-secured content by providing licensing for leading systems including Google Widevine™, Microsoft® PlayReady®, and FairPlay Streaming by Apple® through a single API. Through integration with Brightcove’s backend and players, the castLabs DRMtoday technology will enable DRM-protected MPEG-DASH, HLS, and Smooth Streaming delivery over the widest range of smartphones, tablets, TVs, set-top-boxes, and desktop browsers. The technology’s multi-tenant framework provides simple reseller integration and also allows Brightcove to implement its customers’ DRM requirements on an individual basis.
