Attend our APEX Tech 2019 Sessions this January

Our CEO Michael Stattmann is speaking on the prevalence of MPEG-DASH for adaptive bitrate streaming in in-flight entertainment (IFE), as well as content security, emerging codecs, and wider workflow adoption of cloud technology.

APEX TECH January 2019

APEX TECH provides a biannual forum for the aviation industry and its members to deliver information, guidance, analysis, and trend reporting on technological changes and advances.

Join us for several technical expert discussions.

MPEG-DASH Panel

With increased use of passenger-owned devices in IFE, Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH)—often referred to as “MPEG-DASH”—is becoming increasingly pervasive in the streaming world for adaptive bitrate streaming. APEX has the opportunity to work with entities like the DASH Industry Forum to advance its use in IFE. Has the time come to launch an MPEG-DASH Working Group and move toward development of a specification? Our panel discusses and encourages an open forum.

When: 29 January, 2019 between 13:15 – 14:00

Emerging Codecs Panel

Both HEVC and AV1 at one time looked to be viable codecs that might be used in IFE. Will our industry pass them by and move instead into the Versatile Video Codec (VVC), the Next-Gen Standard of the Joint Video Experts Team?

When: 29 January, 2019 between 15:15 – 16:00

Cloud Delivery Panel

At the June TECH, a panel presented a Case Study describing a three-year proof-of-concept for cloud-based encoding/transcoding, generating considerable interest. This panel now broadens the conversation to consider a wider implementation range for cloud-based computing in IFE.
